FAQ


Is there a difference in shipping price from the online store than the retail store?

Yes, Mr. Pineapple online provides a custom rate based on your postal code.  We now ship to all 50 states and nearly 20 countries and our website provides a great rate for all of these locations.  Shopping online can save you up to 30% depending on where you are shipping to. 

You can call Mr. Pineapple and we can still provide you a flat rate cost for shipping pineapples in the continental U.S.  Here are the flat rates we provide in-store.

My Pineapples are green and not ripe?

The color does not indicate ripeness on the Maui Gold Pineapples.  They are unique unlike Dole or other pineapples you might find in your local grocery store.  Maui Gold Pineapples can be green, yellow or golden color and all be sweet and ready to eat.  The farmers pick them ripe and ready to eat.  Once the Maui Gold Pineapples are picked they do not ripen anymore. 

I got my fruit home, now what?

Put all fruit in the refrigerator.  Pineapples will last 5-7 days upon receiving them.  Towards the end of that time, cut up the remaining pineapples and freeze them up to one year in a airtight container or zip lock bag.  The high sugar content and low acid make these pineapples great for freezing and taste fresh when you thaw it out.  Note: Don't freeze a pineapple whole.

Papayas will be slightly on the green side.  This is one fruit you will want to set out on the counter top to ripen.  It only takes 24-48 hours for the papaya to ripen.  Keep the papayas refrigerated until you are ready to pull one out to ripen at room temperature.  Our delicious papayas will last 7-10 days in the refrigerator and again you can cut and freeze them for up to one year.

How do I take a pineapple home on the plane? Can I put it in my suitcase?

The Mr. Pineapple Team makes this easy for you.  We hand inspect each pineapple to make sure it is free of bugs and will meet United States Department of Agriculture regulations.  We then pack the box with pineapples, and your favorite goodies from our store according to airline regulations.  Each airline operates differently and has a separate set of rules from each other for allowing free pineapples on the plane.  Next, you come by Mr. Pineapple on the day you are flying out to get a fresh box of fruit to check in or carry on.  We help you tag it and make it ready to go on your flight.  It's as simple as that. 

Should I call to reserve a box to take on the plane with me?

Absolutely!!  We do run out of pineapples from time to time because we order them fresh based on the number of pre-orders we have.  We are not like a grocery store that keeps fruit for several days on hand.  We receive regular shipments throughout the week to keep fresh fruit available.  However, large orders do come in from groups or conferences that are looking for something last minute.  Pre-orders are always ordered fresh from the field. 

Can I ship pineapples to a PO box or APO address?

No, we use a 2-day air service with FedEx and UPS.  We must have a physical address to ship to.  However, there have been very few circumstances that FedEx and UPS have delivered to a PO box because it was an arrangement with that postal and carrier service.

Is there a season or time of the year for pineapples?

The Maui Gold Pineapples are picked all year long.  Our tropical climate makes it ideal for the pineapples to grow and be ripe throughout the year.  However, the pineapples do need sun to ripen and in the winter time this can cause a problem.  Maui does get cooler temperatures and has a rainy season from December through April.  The pineapples can be a little smaller than normal.

The Maui Organic Pineapple and White Pineapple is seasonal and is only available during the summer time.  These special order pineapples have a very short season from June to August depending on the weather.  Be sure to sign up for our newsletter and you'll be notified when these amazing pineapples become available.

How long does it take to grow a pineapple? 

It takes 18-24 months to grow one Maui Gold Pineapple. 

Can I grow a pineapple on the mainland?

Yes, you can take the top off of the pineapple and plant it in the ground.  Have some patience and in about 2 years you'll have your very own Maui Gold Pineapple.  Be sure to keep it at room temperature and not outside where it can freeze in the winter time.  Send us pictures of your pineapple.  We have been collecting pictures from all over the U.S. and when we have a few more, we'll post them on our website.

Can I ship a pineapple on my own? Can I use USPS?

No, all fruit leaving Hawaii must be agriculture certified therefore FedEx, UPS and USPS would not allow you to ship it on your own.  Also, we do not use USPS for shipping fruit because the shipping time is too slow.  By the time USPS gets the box to the recipient, the fruit has already gone bad.

Can I use my own FedEx/UPS account number?

Yes, give us a call and we'll charge you just for the items purchased excluding any shipping costs.  We just need your account number and billing zip code for the account.

Can I ship other stuff that I have from my trip?

No, we can only ship what we have inspected from in the Mr. Pineapple store. However, there are multiple places nearby in Kahului that can ship your items.

Can I ship to multiple addresses online in the same order?

Unfortunately, no.  It would be great to have ship 6 Maui Gold Pineapples to 6 different addresses and get the discounted rate but unfortunately FedEx/UPS doesn't work that way.  Each shipment is charged separately.  However, our website makes it easy to enter those addresses by remember you each time.  You don't have to keep re-entering billing information and you accrue Mr. Pineapple points for each order that you can use towards your next purchase in the future.

Do you put prices on your products?

No, we understand that most of these items will be gifts.  We do not put receipts in the boxes and do not have prices on any of our products.  You will receive a email notification for the products purchased and a second email for when the items are shipped.  Our team inserts a packing slip into each box with what items are in the box and any notes from the buyer. 

I'm missing an item in my box?

Oops! We're human and make mistakes.  Please call us right away and we'll get it fixed.  In order to expedite this process, please call with your order number.

I got a bad pineapple what do I do?

Refer to our refund policy during the checkout process.  In summary, please call us immediately and we'll take care of you.

Can I insert a note?

Absolutely! During your check out process online, you will have the opportunity to insert a note.  The note is automatically put onto the packing slip for the recipient.
